Paul Spiegelman

Paul Spiegelman

Paul co-founded Beryl with his two brothers in 1985. As CEO, he oversees strategic planning and business development for the nation's thought-leading company in healthcare customer interactions and relationship management. He is responsible for setting the vision for the company, building a strong management team, and promoting the unique culture for the 300-plus co-workers. This culture has resulted in Beryl being chosen as the #2 Best Medium Company to Work For in America, and earned Paul the honor of being named a finalist for the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He also is the executive director of The Beryl Institute, the company's thought leadership entity.

Paul is a much sought-after speaker and is particularly passionate about the importance of customer service in healthcare. He is a frequent author whose views have been published in Inc. Magazine, Dallas Morning News, Healthcare Financial Management, Leadership Excellence, Entrepreneur and many other noteworthy publications. His first book, Why is Everyone Smiling? The Secret Behind Passion, Productivity and Profit, explores how businesses can create the kind of corporate culture that fosters creativity, builds employee and customer loyalty, and benefits the company's bottom line.

Paul practiced law for two years prior to starting Beryl. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of California Los Angeles and a law degree from Southwestern University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and mentors MBA students through the associate board of the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University as well as at Texas Christian University.


Tom Panion
Tom Panion

As Beryl's chief customer officer, Tom supports the Sales, Business Development and Customer Relations teams with specific focus in the areas of strategic partnerships and industry relationships. With 17 years’ healthcare planning and marketing experience, Tom brings invaluable expertise to Beryl’s clients. Before joining Beryl, he served as a senior director at Solucient, LLC for nine years where he functioned as a consultant on hospital best practices and strategic planning and marketing. He also has held a position in strategic planning at St. Vincent Hospital and Health in Indianapolis.

Tom earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Purdue and has completed some MBA coursework at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He is a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD), for which he is the co-chair of the special interest group (SIG) initiative and served on the 2006 conference committee.


Britt Berrett

Britt Berrett

Britt Berrett has served as president and chief executive officer of Medical City since April 2000. He oversees strategic planning and operations for both Medical City and Medical City Children’s Hospitals, guiding the hospital in its mission to be a dynamic learning healthcare organization that sets the standard of excellence for its employees, patients, physicians and community. 

While on a two-year mission in Peru, Berrett developed a great appreciation for the role that healthcare providers can play in improving the quality of life for an entire community. It is his concern for the quality of life in the community that makes him a passionate advocate for excellence in healthcare and a perfect fit for Medical City.

Prior to joining Medical City, Berrett served as chief executive officer of Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, a 306-bed facility located in San Diego and Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, California.. He received his bachelor's degree in finance from Brigham Young University and his master's degree in hospital administration from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis


Kristin Baird, Senior Faculty

Kristin Baird, RN, BSN, MHA is president of Baird Consulting, a firm specializing in helping health care organizations to fulfill their missions by optimizing their customer experiences. She is a highly sought- after speaker on customer service in health care and empowering nurses. Baird is the author of Customer Service in Healthcare a Grassroots approach to Creating a Culture of Service Excellence (2000, Jossey Bass) and Reclaiming the Passion – Stories that Celebrate the Essence of Nursing (2004 Golden Lamp Press).

Baird is known for her passion for health care service excellence. Her unique perspective is based on over 30 years of health care experience ranging from clinical nursing in critical care, obstetrics and public health to marketing, business development and hospital administration. Baird served as Vice President or Marketing and Business Development for Watertown Area Health Service in Wisconsin for eight years where she helped the organization to achieve top ten percentile ranking in customer service. She received her bachelors of science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Masters in Health Services Administration from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI. She has received over 20 state and national awards for health care communications. Baird is a member of AONE, ANA, MGMA and SHSMD. She has achieved Fellow status in Wisconsin Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society.


Chad Reo, Research Analyst

As a research analyst for The Beryl Institute, Chad aggregates, analyzes and generates reports from the extensive data collected by Beryl’s call advisors as well as available industry data. He also serves as the financial analyst for The Beryl Companies and is responsible for providing analysis as it relates to revenue, operations and sales. Prior to joining Beryl, Chad was the finance manager for Sante Rehab and an accountant for Riverside Beach House, an assisted living facility.

Chad earned an MBA in finance and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and finance from the University of North Texas in Denton. He also studied Spanish and business practices at the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico as part of a study-abroad program. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Society for Quality, Institute of Management Accountants and American Finance Association.


Jennifer Evans, Research Analyst

As a Research Analyst for The Beryl Institute, Jennifer is able to combine her analytical ability and operational experience to build and execute the data queries that are the foundation of the Institute. Jennifer has a deep knowledge of call center operations and protocols, making her a key member of the client facing assessment and consulting team and primary architect of TBI publications.

While at Beryl Jennifer has had responsibility as product analyst, account manager and team lead. In these positions she has performed industry and competitive research as well as operationalizing new products. She has overseen client program development, issue resolution, implementations, report design, forecasting, call handling protocol development and workforce management. Jennifer’s teams have handled claim issues, payment questions, pharmacy benefits and coordination of benefits issues for six of Beryl’s payor clients.

To Beryl Jennifer brings ten years of healthcare experience on the provider side managing end-to-end revenue cycle and patient access for multiple physician practices and clinics.
